ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elmira Solo (b. 1986, Almaty, Kazakhstan) is a contemporary mixed media artist based in Ottawa, Canada. Her work explores the emotional architecture of memory, identity, and perception through layered abstraction, collage, and material experimentation.

With a background in animation, Solo brings a dynamic visual language to her process—merging structure and spontaneity in compositions built from spray paint, acrylic, and found or created collage elements. Influenced by Paul Klee’s poetic approach to rhythm, balance, and inner feeling, she allows intuition to lead her process, letting visual harmony emerge through responsive mark-making and material interplay.

Much of Solo’s recent work reflects on her early experiences of immigration and cultural transition. Rather than narrating those events directly, she evokes their emotional imprint through fragmentation, layering, and partial recognition—echoing Klee’s belief that art doesn’t reproduce the visible, but makes the invisible visible.

Solo holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts and has exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
