ABOUT THE ARTIST
Elmira Solo (b. 1986, Almaty, Kazakhstan) is a contemporary mixed media artist whose work explores what it means to be human. Her paintings trace the emotional and psychological terrain of inner change and the paradoxes we navigate within ourselves. Through layered abstraction she considers how we move from struggle into possibility and how connection, awareness and imagination can shift us toward a more beautiful way of living.
Rooted in intuition and emotional honesty, Solo works in collage, spray paint, acrylics and found papers. Her process is shaped by rhythm, material interplay and the act of facing what arises. She allows spontaneity and structure to meet on the surface so that the work evolves through response. At its center is a search for clarity in complexity and an interest in how transformation begins inside the individual.
Solo holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Animation from Sheridan College and worked in the animation industry for over a decade before transitioning to contemporary art. She lives and works in Ottawa, Canada and has exhibited in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.
